The Story Behind Windermere Arts India
The seeds of Windermere Arts India were sown in the 1990s in New Delhi when Dr. Brijeshwar Singh was spellbound by Shabana Azmi and Farooque Sheikh in the play “Aapki Amrita”. That artistic spark inspired a lifelong devotion to stagecraft alongside his medical residency.
Upon returning to Bareilly, he founded Daya Drishti Charitable Trust and established Rang Vinayak Rang Mandal (RVRM). Over two decades, Windermere has evolved into Northern India's cultural powerhouse — featuring a signature Black Box Theatre, 50+ repertory productions, 16 national theatre festivals, the Windermere Theatre Awards & Grants, and inclusive workshops for children and specially-abled youth.
“In the operating theatre, I mend bones as a trauma surgeon; on the dramatic stage, we mend hearts and nurture the human spirit. Both require truth, precision, and profound empathy.”
